SaPpHiRePL's Dry Skin Tips
Make
sure you are drinking enough water.
It
makes perfect sense, but you wouldn't neceserily realize that
the water in your body is helping to combat dry skin. It is important
to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Eating high water
content foods like leafy greens also helps rehydrate your skin.
A
pre-swim protection ritual
Swimming
is a great excercise, but it can really dry out your skin. Before
hopping into the pool, dampen your body with bottled water and
seal it in with a mixture of 1:1 petroleum jelly and cocoa butter.
Now you will be a mermaid, not an old maid! :)
A
weekly tonic for dry skin
Once
a week, try a gentle scrub, or a honey mask specially formulated
for dry skin. This should add-up to your daily rutine and keep
your skin smooth and balanced. Avoid mud masks as they simply
dry your skin out further!!!
"Blow
drying" your chapped, sunburned face
If
dabbing a soft towel over your sunburned face is too painful and
you dont have time to air dry it, use your blowdryer on 'cool'
to dry your face. Hold it 5' from your face and be careful not
to overdry.
Oils
are not just for cooking
If
you don't have time or money for a skin moisturizer, just head
on to the kitchen. Olive oil, in addition to safflower, cod liver
and mineral oils, is great for your skin. Spread some oil on problem
dry skin, and soon it will be as smooth as silk :)
Easing
winter dry skin
Be
gentle with your skin, using mild cleansers and keeping wash time
to minimum. Use your fingers rather than washcloth to avoid unnesesary
chafing, and moisturize often. It is a wonderful ocasion to take
your humidifier out of a closet and use it, too:)
An
all over facial moisturizer
Just
because it says 'facial' moisturizer on the bottle doesn't mean
you have to limit its use to your face only. In fact, facial moisturizers
are quite effective to condition your hands, knees, elbows and
any place where dry skin is a problem.
A
witch's brew of a neck moisturizer
Get
your boiler ready, 'cause you'll need it! Combine 1 tablespoon
of each: lanolin, glycerin and wheat germ oil with a teaspoon
of bees-wax, and contents of one capsule each of vitamin A &
D. Heat until fully mixed, then store in a jar in the fridge.
When applying, sweep a small amount across your throat in upward
motions using just fingertips.
Avocados
can help smooth over dry skin
Rub
a washed avocado pit over problem dry skin. The natural lubricating
oils inherent in the pit will soften skin in no time. Also, don't
throw away the avocado skin after you have scooped it out. Place
your elbows in the skin cups and do your best 'thinker' imitation
while your elbows get smooth and silky :)
But
don't forget bananas!
Create
your own homemade dry skin mask by mixing a dollop of honey with
one well mashed banana. Apply to your face and let it sit for
10-15 minutes before rinsing. It's cerain to give you added 'a-peel'
